Fantastic Opening Day for the 2014 Season
Saturday’s first Lemhi County Farmers’ Market of the 2014 season was a huge success. The weather was fantastic by staying nice all morning and people were soaking it in with a lazy stroll of conversation. It was such a pleasure to see all of the great displays the vendors used showcasing their particular expertise. There was such a variety of vegetable and herb starts available including everything from mint to kale. Some of the producers were sold out by mid-morning.
Louise of Wags Wool Farm found herself in a teaching mode when a family from out of town came by her booth as she was spinning her wool. I was particularly proud of that father making sure his kids saw everything he was noting to himself.
Speaking of fathers, the June 14th Farmers’ Market has all of the earmarks for a very busy day as well. The Salmon Arts Council is hosting “Art in the Market” from 10 am to 1 pm in the Pavilion. Kids will be making masks and face painting. Plus live music will also be on hand from 10 – 12 pm thanks to Connie Delaney and featuring Eric Frost. Vendors are gearing up for the fun as well. Booth 1, Dylan Brewer, is bringing in fresh baked cookies and jelly. Plus more repurposed home décor items. After your child’s face is painted go to Booth 3, Photography by Jesse, for a portrait of your child’s newly painted face which will make for a great Father’s Day gift.
Watch for Booth 17, Swift River Farms, who is bringing in a variety of fresh picked produce including bok choy, chard, kale and a variety of fresh culinary herbs. On hand you will also find a variety of garden starts and bedding plants. Did anyone find the answers to what are braising greens, mesclun mix and brassicas?
Booth 21, Robert & Diane Klich, will have a variety of cookies plus new felted and antler creations including a large assortment of antler handled knives.
